Pregnancy Osteopathy

Osteopathy during and after Pregnancy

Help your body to be balanced during the changes in pregnancy and Prepare your body for labour.

Osteopathy during pregnancy can be very beneficial in helping the mother to be adjust to the continual changes her body undergoes as the foetus develops. Expectant mothers have new and unusual pressures on their bodies, with the combination of increased weight, changed centre of gravity, increased laxity in ligaments and fluid retention placing extra stress on the hips, pelvis and spinal column. Although it is common back pain should not be a feature of pregnancy and treatment may provide the perfect management and solution.
Our Osteopath’s aim to rebalance the spine and pelvis which can reduce any niggles or discomfort during the pregnancy but can also aid in the preparation for an easier labour and birth.

Our osteopaths also assist women post-natally to help their bodies adjust to the stresses and strains of nursing a new baby, breast feeding related back and neck pain and also to help the body to readjust to its non pregnant state.
We also have paediatric osteopaths who can provide assessment and treatment of your baby after they are born. Please see Osteopathy and babies.
As the pregnancy progresses and the belly grows the extra weight puts the body under more strain as it alters the center of gravity into a forward shift, this alters the spinal curves and hormones that are released soften the surrounding and supporting muscles and ligaments this affects the whole body. These changes may cause mechanical stress or strain on the musculoskeletal system resulting in pain or discomfort.
We use pregnancy massage, stretching, gentle joint movements and pelvic balancing to help provide you a comfortable and enjoyable pregnancy.
