TYPE 2 DIABETES- WHAT YOU CAN LOOK OUT FOR:
– Increased Urination
– Thirsty – like very, very thirsty
– Feeling tired and fatigue
– Always feeling hungry
– Cuts and bruises that take longer to heal
– Blurred vision
– Headaches
– Dizziness
RISK FACTORS OF TYPE 2 DIABETES:
– Family history of Diabetes
– Over 45 years old and have hypertension (high blood pressure) and/or are overweight
– Over 35 years old and of the following backgrounds Aboriginal; Torres Strait Islander; Pacific island; Indian subcontinent; Chinese Cultural background
– Diagnosed with gestational diabetes when pregnant
– Diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Disease
Type 2 diabetes can go unnoticed until some serious heal consequences such as a heart attack; foot ulcer or visual problems occur. It represents over 85% of all cases of diabetes and the great thing is with a healthy lifestyle we can all significantly reduce our risk of type 2 Diabetes.
RISK FACTORS YOU CAN CHANGE:
– High blood pressure – talk to your GP
– Overweight – moving more and healthy eating can help lose weight and easy step to take
– Limited or no physical activity – get moving, walk, jog, cycle
– Poor Diet – Increase vegies, decreased any processed food
– Increased weight around your middle (belly button area) – get moving
