What is DermoNeuroModulation?

Recently, Janine attended a workshop on DermoNeuroModulating taught by Diane Jacobs a renowed physiotherapist and manual therapist.

The following is what she learnt about DermoNeuroModulating.

What is DermoNeuroModulating?

Dermo means skin

Neuro means nervous system

Modulating means change

The concept of DermoNeuroModulating is based on a structured and interactive approach to manual therapy. The nerves are seen as a primary source of the pain sensation, which are treated by influencing the nerves to the skin.

What does treatment include?

Techniques of DermoNeuroModulating are indirect, slow, light and responsive.

The approach can be incorporated into treatment with other Osteopathic techniques.

When is manual therapy likely to be optimal?

When pain is:

– Localised/discrete

– Changes with movement/position (ie mechanical)

– Changes with distraction

DermoNeuroModulation is an evidence based approach for indirect treatment.

If you prefer a softer treatment style, you can book an appointment in with Janine and speak to her about this technique.
